Turkey Mozaik Foundation Committed Funds Towards 19 Organizations in 2018

Turkey Mozaik Foundation completed 4 grant cycles in 2018 with funds committed to 19 charities supporting a variety of causes (health, education, human rights, environment) and target populations (children, youth, women, disabled people, refugees).


Music for Peace Foundation

Barış için Müzik Vakfı aims to positively transform the lives of children and their families and communities through the practice of classical music. Aiming to spread the sound of peace through music, Barış için Müzik Vakfı has been a founding member of the El Sistema movement in Europe. Since 2005, the foundation has educated 6,000 children and aims to reach 10,000 children by 2020.


Istanbul Foster Care Association

Istanbul Koruyucu Aile Derneği was founded in 2012 by individuals raised in foster care themselves as well as families and parents who are foster parents. The association advocates information about the foster care system to encourage more demand from families; works with other organisations to provide support to children and families in need; and organises numerous events to help children in foster care develop socially and get integrated more easily into society.

Clean Clothes Association

Temiz Giysi Kampanyasi is dedicated to support and improve working conditions for workers in the global garment and sportswear industries. Temiz Giysi is part of the Clean Clothes Campaign, an international coalition of 200 organisations involved in activities across 15 European countries since 1989. This network provides support to the work of Temiz Giysi in their aim to educate and mobilise consumers, lobby companies and governments, and offer direct solidarity support to workers.


KODA – Rural Schools Transformation Network

KODA aims to shape a student-centred alternative education model and to create a growing community which can lead and sustain transformation in rural schools. Our funding supports “Quality Education in Rural Areas” (Kirsalda Kaliteli Egitim) project, which implements learning modules on space, philosophy and world culture, in the eastern province of Mus.

TOFD – The Spinal Cord Paralytics Association of Turkey

TOFD’s mission is to produce solutions in public areas concerning the insufficient rehabilitation and environmental conditions that deters disabled citizens to participate in social life. Our funding supports “I Can Access” (Erisebilirim) project which aims to raise architecture and civil engineering students’ awareness for barrier-free designs for the disabled.

DUYDER – Association of Civic Affinity and Anti-violence

Duy-Der provides educational activities aimed at reducing the risk of injury from landmines and unexploded ordnance by raising awareness through training. Our funding supports the “Landmine Risk Education for Children” project in the south-east district of Nusaybin. The project reaches out to 40,000 children between the ages of 7-15 and 500 teachers in 96 local schools.

BoMoVu – Network of Sport and Body Movement for Vulnerable Groups

BoMoVu aims to enable sports practitioners, dancers and performing artists to transform their expertise into social value in Turkey. Our funding supports “Reconciliation Games” project which utilises playful education through traditional street games in Turkish border provinces, encouraging children to claim and preserve their cultural heritage, and reinforcing the values of unity and sharing.

KUZEYDOGA Association

KuzeyDoga strives to increase the amount of community-based nature conservation projects in Turkey (specifically Eastern Anatolia) and aims to amplify awareness and efficiency of local communities and the private sector in protecting biodiversity.  The funded project focuses on collecting bird biodiversity data at Aras River Bird Paradise, Igdir.


Flying Broom Women’s Association

Flying Broom Women’s Association was founded in 1996. The association strives to create change in which women are empowered, gender equality is provided in all areas of life, and that they have a fair world for all. Recently the association’s focus and expertise has been on the issue of child brides and forced marriages in Turkey.

Team International Assistance for Integration (TIAFI)

TIAFI aims to empower vulnerable / refugee women and their families. Based in Izmir, TIAFI provides one-to-one support to all refugees who seek help; offers Child Care Services for women who need to work to support themselves and their families; and has a community center with a charity shop, an open kitchen, a sports room for children and a hobby room for women, helping families to build up their lives again.

Yuva Association

Yuva Association leads an Earth Citizenship Program that is designed to encourage activism and sense of responsibility for the community through educational and advocacy trainings. Our funding supports the expansion of the “Ecological literacy” project that has already fostered thousands of young and adult environmental ambassadors across 17 cities in Turkey since 2013.

Turkish Psychologists Association

TPD is a professional organisation established in 1996. TPD provides psychological rehabilitation and support programs to the communities affected by natural disasters (first during the Marmara Earthquake in 1999, Soma disaster) and other traumatic events (Suruc and Ankara bombings). The association also organises workshops aimed at the profession; focusing on the needs of children and women affected by violence, disabled persons and their families, and marginalised populations.


Kodluyoruz (“We are coding”) aims to improve information technology literacy in Turkey through programs targeted for the youth. They provide training courses and internship opportunities for disadvantaged university students and new graduates to build their IT/coding skills and prepare them for the job market.


Karakutu (“Black Box”) introduces different perspectives and alternative narratives about the past to the youth. The “Memory Journey Program” helps young people explore and question the injustices against the historically marginalised groups, based on religion, gender, ethnicity, or political view, with the ultimate aim of promoting justice and peace in the society.

GRANT CYCLE #4- Children’s Fund and Conditional Grantee

ssociation for Struggle against Sexual Violence

Our funding will support “Çocuk Anlatır Sen Dinle, İstismarı Önle”, a train-the-trainer project that aims to increase the participants’ knowledge and awareness regarding child abuse and the approaches to prevent and recognise harm. The workshops will be for Sisli Municipality employees that work directly with children (e.g. Social Service Division) and educators/counsellors in selected secondary schools in the area. The training materials that will be developed within the project will provide the resources for other municipalities that would like to implement the programme in their area.

Hayat Sende

Hayat Sende Association was established in 2007 with the aim of bringing innovative solutions to the lives of children under legal care in Turkey. Our funding will support a train-the-trainer programme for 20 university students aged 18-25 under state care, who will then lead workshops for 150 children aged 10-15 to raise awareness of their rights as children under state care and to build capacity to facilitate every child’s access these rights.

Bir Baska Okul Mumkun

BBOM was set up in 2010 to develop an alternative school model improving on current Turkish education system and to establish schools which use this education model that focuses on a social solution and child-centered approaches. There are currently 5 BBOM Early Childhood Centres and Primary Schools and 8 Education Cooperatives across Turkey. Our funding will support “Participatory & Peaceful Toys” project that will allow for development and dissemination of educational toys and materials aligned with BBOM’s principles.

Science Heroes Association

Science Heroes Association aims to promote and spread science, scientific thinking and awareness in the society, and in particular through activities targeting children and the youth. Our funding will support “Girls meet Science!” project, which will allow for 12 primary school teams comprising of girls aged 6-10 in Antalya, Diyarbakır, Hatay, Edirne, Samsun and Mersin to participate in the FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. programme.

Music for Peace Foundation

Our second funding in 2018 to Music for Peace Foundation is a project grant that will set up a new “Peace Orchestra” comprising of up to 60 children with no prior music training and from different ethnic backgrounds or nationalities, focusing in particular on the inclusion and participation of refugee children living in the Edirnekapi/Fatih area.
