Background:
During the summer of 2021, more than 250 wildfires happened across Turkey, affecting an area of 150 thousand hectares, killing 13 civilians. Wildfires are common in the Mediterranean region and roughly more than 2000 wildfires take place in Turkey annually according to the statistics collected over the last 20 years. However, the wildfires of 2021 have been unprecedented both in impact and magnitude. As an emergency relief response, Turkey Mozaik Foundation in cooperation with the Support Foundation for Civil Society launched the Turkey Wildfire Relief and Mitigation Fund. Thanks to our supporters, we raised over 27,000 GBP with more than 380 supporters in a quick time span. We disseminated those funds to 5 organizations that provided immediate relief and invested in mid-to-long term mitigation.
