Kahramanmaras Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund

Kahramanmaras Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund

Kahramanmaras Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund was launched following the earthquake that hit southeast Türkiye/northern Syria on 6 February 2023, to support civil society organisations working on the ground to provide immediate relief and medium to long-term recovery to the survivors. Please view our 12-Month Impact Report for an overview of the initiatives undertaken and the outcomes achieved in one year.

We first provided grants to seven organisations (Needs Map, AKUT Search and Rescue Association, TOKTUT, Support to Life Association, Food Rescue Association, Lokman Hekim Health Foundation, and Ahbap Association) focusing on search & rescue and emergency relief work covering food, clean water, mobile toilets, container houses for health workers and other urgent needs.

We then launched the Small Grants Program with our partner the Support Foundation for Civil Society (Sivil Toplum için Destek Vakfı), to support smaller-scale activities carried out by local organisations with expertise and know-how that can create a valuable impact on the ground. With this Program, a total of £167,100 was allocated to 26 local CSOs. Please find here the report of our Small Grants Program offering an insightful overview of the activities undertaken and the outcomes achieved by the projects initiated by our program’s grantees.

As priorities on the ground start to evolve beyond the emergency needs of the immediate aftermath, we launched the Regional Recovery Support Program, with the Support Foundation for Civil Society. The program aims to support civil society organisations’ long-term interventions for the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected regions and the well-being of the earthquake survivors. We are supporting 19 civil society organisations with this program.

We launched the Foster Family Fund to combat the widespread misinformation about the foster care system and adoption following the Kahramanmaras earthquakes and to support foster families.

In total, thanks to the support of our generous donors, we have so far granted over £3,1 million to support 92 projects.

Please find the details of the Kahramanmaras Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund’s grantees and their projects below. You can also view here the campaign timeline.
